Got a shady tree or a tranquil seaside setting sorted? Then all you need aside from SPF and some sunnies is the bag, the book and the big, beautiful towel! Here's what the Stylizen team are toting to the beach and back!
Summer is well and truly upon us, so get outside. Go on, you won’t regret it for a second (as long as there is shade, a good read and maybe a sip of something ice cold involved.)
So, what’s in the bag when it comes to the ultimate Summer Survival Kit? Aside from the SPF and the Sunnies (obviously!) here’s a sneak peak into what 99.9% of the Stylizen gang will be toting.
Rule #1 when it comes to a beach tote is to ensure it has adequate drainage. That sand and sea can be a real drag when it pools in the bottom of your bag! We love this style as it’s perforated leather-look exterior adds an essential touch of glamour on the go too!
Seafolly Double Dot Tote, $79.95, available at Seafolly.
Carry the nautical theme throughout your summer with a bag that simply screams ‘Seaside!’. We’re all a bit Ga Ga over this Sailor Tote from Etsy. Those knotted rope handles are simply too cute, don’t you agree?
Bayan Hippo Sailor Tote Bag, $52.34, available from Bayan Hippo at Etsy.
Have you got into the pom pom party yet? We covered this craze in spring, but it’s showing no signs of slowing coming into summer! The perfect beach bag – for a banging budget price – this style combines raffia and a little bit of Ra Ra perfectly!
Cotton On Samba Beach Bag,

This one is worth toting around. An uplifting read – without the self-help hoo-ha – Happy by Amanda Talbot demonstrates how architecture and interior design at their best can make us safer, healthier, more efficient, enlightened and productive – all contributing to a fundamental sense of wellbeing. In essence, Happy shows us ways in which design can help us live a happy life. This global survey reveals how designers are creating joyous living spaces that play to our emotions – speaking to our hearts as much as to our heads – through strategic planning and execution and by using carefully chosen colours, textures, quality of materials and finishes.
Amanda Talbot Happy Book, $75, available at Hunting For George.
I’ve heard A. Lot. about this book. And it’s from the women in my life who are go-getters, self-believers, group-motivators, constant-shoulders. You know those women who just seem to move forward amidst the melee of life while managing to be kind, considerate and kick-ass?
From how I hear it, author Mark Manson Manson argues that if life gives you lemons, sure you can make lemonade, but maybe we have to learn to stomach lemons a little better in the first place? Basically, we need to figure out what matters, and what doesn’t. So it’s on my summer must-read list once I work out how to cleverly conceal the cover from my literate kids!
Mark Manson The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, $25.49, available at Angus & Robertson Bookworld.
Letter To My Teenage Self by Melbourne teenager Grace Halphen is the fruition of a journey she undertook as a 13-year-old when she struggled with fitting in and making friends. More than 50 prominent Australians – including Judith Lucy, Nathan Buckley, Guy Sebastian, Missy Higgins, Danni Minogue and Adam Gilchrist in what is sure to be a heart-warming and eye-opening read for teens and adults alike.
