When you spend a better part of your life working or studying from home, you need serious style inspiration. Here are my 6 home office buys that make my day more productive!
As a writer, most of my time is spent at my desk, and I don’t know about you, but cluttered space results in a cluttered mind. When I’m working from home, I want to have a clean, curated area full of inspiration but free of junk. I also want it to be interesting and anything but ordinary. So I’ve had a good hard think about it – and procrastinated and avoided other deadlines for just enough time – to bring you my six home office buys that make my day more productive!
Writing on many topics, including fashion, beauty, lifestyle, travel and wellness means I need a lot of little reminders about deadlines, launches, meetings and shoots. Seeing as my budget doesn’t extend to a team of interns, I have to rely on a plethora of post-it notes to get me through. I found normal cork boards too mundane, so I added this super cute cork board world map to my home office that reminds me to not only be on time but to think outside the square!
Urban Outfitters Cork Board World Map, approx. $51, available at Urban Outfitters.
My desk can often double as the kid’s craft space. Lucky me! So, to keep their Crayola’s out of my area, I keep all my pens, pencils and scissors in this glorious golden organiser from Anthropologie. Yes, the kids want to get their sticky peanut butter-stained fingers on it, but I’ve impressed on them that it’s real gold and therefore out of bounds. Boom!
Anthropologie Codify Pencil Holder, approx. $63, available at Anthropologie.
It’s a must that I muster all the resource books I have on my desk. Although some of the fashion tomes are truly gorgeous, the others that delve into skin health, the science of wellness and stats and facts about tech are slightly less visually stimulating. Therefore, I need something to hold them together that is vivid and vibrant, and these rainbow bookends from Cotton On do just that. The pot of gold is not at the end of the rainbow, it’s snug in between!
Cotton On Bookends, $39.99, available at Cotton On.
I find that big clumpy lamps can make my desk appear smaller and more cluttered. Therefore I like to keep bases fine. I purchased this killer light from Coggles recently that ticks all the boxes when it comes to a big design impact within a minimal space.
Menu Reade Table Lamp, approx. $258, available at Coggles.
I want my notebook to be hungry for ideas. It needs to look as keen as mustard and as cute as anything. That is why I always have a notebook close by that sings to me! There is none better than Paul Smith’s classic signature stripe notebook. I love that it is as refined as it is relaxed and that I can proudly tote it to any client meeting, as well as display it proudly on my desk after hours. It makes me look smart, in more ways than one!
Paul Smith Signature Stripe Notebook, approx. $35, available at Paul Smith.
I know I’m not exactly running the free world, but I seem to always have a lot on my plate! If procrastination ever creeps in, I like to have a focus point that pulls me into line. This piece is perfect as it’s a bit of fun but also a friendly reminder that if I don’t get my skates on, I’ll have a client screeching down the phone to me in a flash!
Hunting For George Hustle Art Print, $69, available at Hunting For George.
