Gardening Goals for the Non-Green Thumb!

If your intentions are good, anything can grow!

How does your garden grow? Unless you’re a dedicated green thumb, chances are, not so well!

But with a few basic tips, you too can learn how to grow your food and flora fuss-free this spring.

Here are five secrets to gardening success for the non-green thumb!

1. Plant In Plain Sight

If you can see your garden each day, and how well or badly it’s thriving, then you are less likely to forget it! So keep your garden in relative eyesight every day so that it can flourish. The best sites are those that are on flat ground and easily accessible to water. Outside the kitchen or on the lounge room balcony are always good visible options.

2. Start Small

Don’t over-invest in space or time if you’re not willing to see it through. If you want to dabble in gardening, start with one pot plant and work your way into a herb box or small raised garden bed from there. Better to succeed on a small scale than to fail on an epic one!

3. Get Your Hands Dirty

You’re going to want to work your way through the Do’s and Don’ts of dirt before you consider which plants to go with. For the most fruitful growth, ensure your soil is fertile and well-drained. You can ask at any nursery about soil specifics to suit your gardening goals.

4. Let The Sun Shine In

For plants and vegetables to grow successfully, they need sunlight – at least six hours a day is preferable – but again, some vegetables will grow with less light. These include lettuce and root crops like carrots, radishes, and beetroots. If your patch of earth isn’t exposed to much sunlight during the day, consider a mobile planter that you can move around and have sit in the sun when, and where, there is some!

5. Keep Your Plants Healthy

For plants to live, they need proper love. Water alone won’t cut it. You also need to fertilise regularly, so roots remain fortified. If your vegetables or flowers don’t make it, then remove them completely and regenerate the soil around it before planting again.
