Bikini's may have had their day in the sun with the slew of long-sleeve swimwear hitting the market this summer. Not only are they sexy, slimming and functional, but they also prove a SunSmart option for every age. Here's 28 styles to shop now - and why you very well should!
There comes a choice in every woman’s life – should the bikini stay, or should it go? Coming into summer 2016/2017 I am still divided – as is my swimwear fabric. But I can’t argue that – although I still have two-piece swimmers on extremely high-rotation – the dial is definitely being turned up to 11 when it comes to fuller coverage on the swimwear front.
Long-sleeve swimmers are everywhere – from Elle McPherson to Rihanna to Beyonce – all the babes are rocking a full-coverage style for sea and poolside soirees. Historically only popular for surfer girls and the lifeguard set, now these long-sleeve rash styles have been adopted by the fashion fraternity and it’s easy to see why.
There is something to be said about the structure that long-sleeve styles offer. A full shoulder and sleeve deliver a stronger torso silhouette – this I have really noticed – and the zip-front styles prove incredibly sexy with bikini top underneath. With a little cleavage showing, you get all the support – and none of the sun damage – with a sneak peak of sass!
Many long-sleeve styles are made of neoprene or wetsuit material which sucks in and slims in all the right places! The long sleeve lengthens and covers any less-toned upper arm areas, and the seams in the heavy fabric can hold in tummies and upper hip areas to perfection.
Say sayonara to all those wardrobe malfunctions when you’re in the surf. The long-sleeve style leaves no room for guesswork when it comes to coverage and full-conceal – rather than reveal – when you need it most. Run after those toddlers, paddle out to that second break and complete that extra ocean lap without a slither of worry you may be showing more than you suspect!
Another big win for the long-sleeve swimwear style is the extra coverage it offers. As you age, skin tone isn’t as even as it used to be, so the fact that the sun damaged decolletage and arm area is concealed is a big plus! On the flip side, you can rest assured you won’t be suffering from sunburn on any of these areas this summer. Sun smart, sexy, functional and fashion forward? Yes indeed!
