Suffering From Major Heel Hangover? 5 Reasons to Make Friends With Flats

Its's time to ditch the heels!

Surely you’ve been banging around in ankle boots and higher-than-heaven heels for long enough to know that you need to take a load off those feet sometime soon. So why not start now? In effort to save your soles (before it’s too late) we’ve rounded up five reasons you should make firm friends with a pair of flats.

Flats Can Be Gender Fluid:

In the era of Caitlyn Jenner, gender fluidity is front and centre. And flat shoes fit the brief every time. For the days you are feeling feminine and seek a delicate style, go for a ballet flat a-la Olivia Palermo and Jessica Alba. But when you want to tap into some modern masculinity, choose a lace-up style like Rhianna’s. Can’t decide between the two? The laced-up ballet flats are the best option, covering all bases from the ground up.

Flats Give Feet Good Loving (especially if they are leather)

Where do I start on the benefits of binning the heels? Well, first up, think of all that dosh you’ll save at the chiropractor that you can now slam down at the shoe sales? Then there is the improved stature you’ll be sporting thanks to a comfortable clog, and lastly – if you choose a leather flat – your feet will be as fresh as a daisy all darn day. “The main benefit associated with leather shoes is the breathability and flexibility of the leather,” Annie Abbott of Habbot Studios explains. “This means that your feet stay cool and dry inside the shoe, and also allows the shoes to adjust to the foot shape in warm or cool climates.

Flats Aren’t Fashion Snobs:

You can wear them to work, you can wear them to play, and God knows you can wear them on the dancefloor from cocktail hour until you surface next day. Flats are not only on-trend, but they are incredibly versatile when it comes to your social needs. Pair them back with a cuffed boyfriend jean for the weekend, a tapered leg pant for work or a pencil skirt or flippy spring dress for party time.

Flats Are Smart Shoes:

There is specific technique to getting the right ‘balance’ in a shoe which relates to the way the heel, arch and forepart work together,” Annie explains the science behind the perfect pair of flats. “It’s only something you would notice when it’s wrong and can mean the difference between happy or aching feet at the end of a long day. Getting this right is second nature to our Italian makers and it makes all the effort involved in working with a manufacturing team so far away worth it!” she laughs.

What They Lack In Stature, Flats Make Up For In Statement Details:

Annie notes that all that glitters prove hugely popular in flat shoes, allowing the wearer to step from day to night with ease. Black and gunmetal are big for understated elegance, and – note to all those smart arches out there – silver and gold are those smart go-to for a statement shoe.
