Well blow me down, it’s here again. Winter is upon us people, and I’ll be damned if I can decide which winter coats to conceal my shivery bones within this season!

There is so much to choose from, so, if you’re going to be shivering in your boots for the next few months, you best be sure you look good doing so, right?

Here are the seven hottest coat trends for the cooler season, and why they just may work for you!

The Plaid Coat

Plaid has officially denounced velvet from its perch as the most lust-worthy fabric for winter. Marrying true grit with street style glamour, plaid and check coats and jackets are a huge trend best worn back with loads of distressed denim and a pair of luxe loafers.

Winter Coat Trends 2017

Kolor Checked Wool-Blend Coat, $2,124 now $728 – available at Matches Fashion.

The Colour Block Coat

Graphic lines are doing great things in coats and jackets this winter. A nod to contemporary design, colour blocking offers an architectural bright spark amidst lots of dreary winter colours. Pair back with all black pants or long skirts and trainers to keep the look modern and loose.

Winter Coat Trends 2017

Topshop Multi Colour Block Coat, $279.95 – available at Topshop.

The Faux Fur Coat

The bigger, the better this season when it comes to faux fur coats and jackets. Go with sorbet colours of blush and mint, pastel blue and lemon in cropped versions, or a big warm hug of chocolate or ink for a long line option. But be warned, although snuggly and fun, the long faux fur coat is not for the faint-hearted fashion-goer! So wear it with pride and prepared to be stopped in the streets!

Pixie Market Navy Faux Fur Coat, US $282 – available at Pixie Market.

The Embellished Coat

The best bit about embellished jackets is that they never, ever get boring! A mishmash of florals and checks – and anything in between – an embellished, patchwork or mixed print coat is a clever way to marry many trends into one fashion item! Try this in loose kimono shapes or really strong woollen silhouettes.

Winter Coat Trends 2017

Trelise Cooper Flora Adorer Kimono Jacket, $699 – available at David Jones.

The Oversized Duster Coat

The duster coat has lost a whole lot of its structure across the shoulders and pockets this season yet gained a new lease on life. Wrapping yourself up in a woollen, oversized duster coat is not only the stuff of dreams but sure to keep you on trend all winter. You can throw it over anything and everything for the commute to work or a night out on the increasingly icy town.

Winter Coat Trends 2017

Marios Oversized Duster Coat, $613 – available at Farfetch.

The Hooded Coat

This is another super cool, military-inspired trend which also taps into the big focus on khaki for the season. The hooded coat comes with lots of luxe lining and a flattering length that can trick up even the most basic day wear. As this is more on the casual side of coats however, keep it for day adventures, rather than night.

Winter Coat Trends 2017

DKNY Zipped Coat with Hood, EUR $519 – available at Stylebop.

The Trench Coat

And she rises again! The trench is a failsafe way to ensure you are looking fierce for yet another winter! A true classic, the trench is designed to suit all shapes and sizes, and the neutral fabric can easily work back with any tones.

Isabel Marant Slater Trench Coat $1,170 now $890 – available at Matches Fashion.
